Superbat
Superbat was my first ‘proper’ book and it was a long drawn out (no pun intended) process to finally get it published. After Russell the Scared Crow came out, a lady from a publishers asked me if I had any other book ideas and I came up with Superbat. The idea was what would happen if a bat wanted to become Batman. He’d have quite a job as all his bat friends would have the same skills as him! After a year or so of back and forth, Superbat went to a meeting but they didn’t think it was quite right for them. It was quite a disappointment I can tell you! The lady said I should try and get an agent and an rambling nonsensical email later, incredibly I got a really good one. With a proper agent on board, the book got taken seriously and amazingly got a deal. Then after another year of refining and illustrating Superbat came out, about 4 years after Pat the Bat had first popped into my head! Unbelievably it was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children Book Prize in 2018 and has been translated into Korean, Catalan, Spanish and Hebrew! You can buy it here.
